Set up sources, categories, and currencies
Maintain clean accounting masters so everyday entries, imports, reimbursements, billing, inventory, and reports stay reliable.
How to use this
Create sources first
Add real wallets, banks, cards, and business accounts before recording entries.
Use categories carefully
Choose categories that match reporting needs instead of creating a category for every merchant.
Keep defaults stable
If a default item is deleted, it should stay deleted until you intentionally restore starter defaults.
Set base currency
Use base currency for main reporting and add other currencies only when needed.
Review mappings
Financial Statements and imports depend on clean category and source mapping.

Create sources
Open More → Core Setup → Sources. Create one source for each real place where money is held.
Create categories
Open Categories and review income/expense categories. Add custom categories only when defaults do not fit.
Manage currencies
Open Currencies, confirm base currency, and add exchange rates only when multi-currency records exist.
Keep mappings ready
Financial Statements use source and category mapping. Fix unmapped or suspense categories before relying on accountant reports.
Before you finish, check this
- Source names are clear and not duplicated.
- Deleted defaults do not automatically reappear.
- Categories needed for modules exist.
- Currency symbol and decimal display are correct.
- Mapping warnings are not ignored.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Creating categories for every vendor name.
- Deleting a source that has history without understanding reports.
- Confusing source balance with profit/loss.
- Letting import auto-post into unclear categories.
